Details of Arrest: Beal was in the Clay County Jail on an arrest warrant and a Clay County Deputy had a charges stemming from an investigation of a Burglary complaint from 3-31-19 and a search warrant at Beal's residence on 4-9-19. Beal was charged with Theft (4th) and P.C.S.-Marijuana, both Serious Misdemeanors, Burglary (3rd)-Motor Vehicle, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor. Clay County Sheriff’s Office was called to the intersection of 320th Ave and 350th St for a welfare check on a female. Upon arrival it was determined that the female had been involved in a motor vehicle crash and rolled her vehicle. Spencer Ambulance and Dickens Fire responded to the scene and the female was transported to the Spencer Hospital for minor injuries.

Details of Arrest: On May 18, 2019 at approximately 11:30 am, Currans drove a , green, 2005 Ford Focus into the Clay County Sheriff's Office parking lot from the 3000 block of West 4th Street. After a short investigation, it was determined that Currans was suspended in Iowa. Currans was placed under arrest for driving while suspended, and was escorted into the Clay County Jail with no incident.

Unit 1 was traveling west in the 1000 mile of Hwy. 18. The driver of Unit l's loose jacket, got caught in the rear tire sprocket causing the rear tire to lock up. Unit l's rear tire started to skid and the driver lost control, overturned and slid on its side coming to rest facing west. The driver was transported to the Spencer Hospital to be treated for injuries. The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Everly Fire and Rescue and the Hartley Police Department.

Details of Arrest: On the afternoon of May 10th, 2019, a Clay County Deputy received information from Kossuth County about Graves having to be registered as a sex offender by May 9th, 2019. The Deputy was advised Graves had not done so in their county and asked to attempt to locate her in Clay County. On the afternoon of May 15th, 2019, the Deputy met Graves and it was found she had been living in Clay County since January. Graves was placed under arrest and was taken to the jail w/o incident. Graves was charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender (1st), an Aggravated Misdemeanor and
was held on a $2,000.00 cash or surety bond.

ON MAY 10TH, 2019 APPROXIMATLEY 11:00 AM, THE CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE WAS CALLED TO THE 2800 MILE OF HIGHWAY 18 FOR A 2 VEHICLE COLLISION. ROBERT DILLARD WAS DRIVING A 2007 CHEVERLOET SILVERADO TRAVELING EAST, ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN OFF HIGHWAY 18 INTO DICKENS. TOD SCHIERNBECK WAS DRIVING A 2018 CHEVEROLET SILVERADO BELONGING TO KASSEL FARMS. SCHIERNBECK WAS TRAVELING EAST AND DID NOT SEE DILLARD TURING. SCHIERNBECK COLLIDED WITH DILLARD'S VEHILCE CAUSING HEAVY DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES. SCHIERNBECK RECEIVED A MINOR INJURY AND REFUSED MEDICAL TREATMENT. DILLARDS VEHICLE WAS ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY $4,000 IN DAMAGE. THE VEHILCE OPERATED BY SCHIERNBECK RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY $5,000. BOTH VEHICLES WERE TOWED FROM THE SCENE.

Complaint of pain by one juvenile passenger ACCIDENT DETAILS
Dean Stein (55) of Fostoria, Ia was driving a 2019 Thomas bus eastbound in the 1200 block of 280th Street when the muddy road conditions caused the bus to lose traction and enter the south ditch. The driver's side of the bus lost contact with the road and it came to rest in the ditch. No injuries were reported by the driver, and three juvenile passengers were seen by ambulance services, with one juvenile being transported to the Spencer Hospital for a report of pain. No citations were issued due to road conditions. The accident investigation is ongoing. The Clay County Sheriffs Office was assisted on scene by Everly Fire and Rescue, Clay County Ambulance Services, and the Iowa State Patrol.

On Friday, April 26th, 2019, at approximately 11:47 p.m., The Clay County Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of 280th Avenue and 350th Street, Dickens, Iowa. A 911 call reported a vehicle was nearly severed and wrapped around an electrical pole. The vehicle was a 1999 Mercury Sable.
The driver, Alfonso Adrian Maldonado, age 19, from Graettinger, Iowa, was transported to the Spencer Hospital and later died from his injuries. The passenger and registered owner of the vehicle, Tephonte Alan Smith, age 21, from Estherville, Iowa was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The accident investigation is still on-going and there are no further details to be released at this time. A Traffic investigator from the Iowa State Patrol responded and is assisting with this investigation. More information will be released at a later date.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Dickens Fire and Rescue and the Spencer Ambulance.
Alliant Energy also assisted with making the scene safe, because of live power lines down around the accident scene.

The Deputy met a vehicle matching the description and conducted a license plate check. The vehicle was registered to a subject with the same last name. The Deputy turned around and located the truck at 218 W. rd St. and observed the driver standing with the driver side door open. The Deputy conducted an investigation and was provided with a false name. With the assistance of the Spencer Police Department, the male was identified as Duane Anderson. Anderson was placed under arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail w/o incident. Anderson was served with the warrant and was charged with Driving Under Suspension, No Insurance and Providing False Information, all Simple Misdemeanors. Anderson was held w/o bond to be transported to the Rockwell City Prison.

Search warrants by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, land two men in the Clay County Jail on Possession of Stolen Property and Drug Charges.

At approximately 4:36 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrived at 2840 330th Avenue, Terril, Iowa, in Clay County in reference to a search warrant for stolen property. Upon searching, Deputies located drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain view and a second search warrant application was made for illegal drugs and was approved.

Upon searching, Deputies located marijuana, methamphetamine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, lithium, drug paraphernalia and stolen property. Billy Joe Doran, (39), 2840, 3330th Ave. Terril, Iowa, Clay County, was arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail w/o incident. Doran was turned over to jail staff for booking, and was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor, P.C.S. Methamphetamine (2nd), an Aggravated Misdemeanor, P.C.S.-Marijuana and P.C.S.-Hydrocodone, both Serious Misdemeanors. Doran was held on a $2,000.00 cash or surety bond.

Paul Kenneth Davis, 28, 2840 330th Ave., Terril, Iowa, Clay County, was arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail w/o incident. Davis was charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both Simple Misdemeanors and P.C.S.-Marijuana and P.C.S.-Methamphetamine, both Serious Misdemeanors. Davis was held on a $1,000.00 cash or surety bond on the charges and was also served with an arrest warrant for failing to appear to serve a mandatory seven day mittimus and was held to serve the seven days. This case is still under investigation and more charges are anticipated.

On Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 at approximately 7:04 a.m. the Clay County Sheriffs’ Office and Spencer Police Department were called to the intersection of Hwy 18 and 71 for a report of a two vehicle collision. Upon investigation, it was determined that December Pomerenke was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 owned by Christenson Farms westbound from the stop sign at Hwy 18 and 71. As Pomerenke left the stop sign, she failed to see Virginia Bergner driving southbound in the 3100 Block of Hwy 71 in her 1997 Chrysler Concorde, striking the Bergner vehicle in the driver’s side door. Pomerenke was subsequently cited with Failing to Yield Upon Entering Through Highway.
